Description

This is a 3-storey tenement block built in 1825 by James Haldane, with later alterations and additions. It occupies a corner site and presents a 7-bay elevation to Morrison Street, a 4-bay elevation to West Maitland Street, and a 7-bay linking corner elevation. The upper floors are constructed in polished sandstone ashlar with polished sandstone dressings. Projecting cills are visible on the first floor of the Morrison Street elevation, with a cill course on the second floor. A string course runs above the second-floor windows on the corner elevation and to West Maitland Street. A cornice and blocking course sits at the eaves, raised at the central bay of the Morrison Street elevation and at the end bays of the corner and West Maitland Street elevations. The corner elevation, along with the terminal bays of the West Maitland Street elevation, is divided by giant pilasters.

The Morrison Street elevation features a timber-panelled door with a large rectangular fanlight to the left of centre at ground floor, alongside modern shop fronts. The West Maitland Street elevation exhibits a modern timber-panelled pub frontage on the right-hand side at ground floor, with a stone flight leading to a round-arched doorway with voussoirs in the outer left bay, featuring a timber panelled door with infilled fanlight. The corner elevation has a curved modern timber-panelled pub frontage and a bowed bay window extending across the central upper floors.

Modern plate glass windows are present at ground floor level, while the upper floors retain 12-pane timber sash and case windows. The roof material is not visible, and the stacks are a mix of coped rendered and coped sandstone ashlar, topped with cylindrical cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods are also present. The interior was not inspected in 2000.
