15, 16, 17, 18 West Maitland Street, Edinburgh

28, 29, 30 West Maitland Street is a four-storey, 24-bay tenement block built in 1864 by John Lessels. The building features an astylar design with shops on the ground floor. It is constructed from polished, channelled sandstone ashlar with polished dressings. Architectural details include a dentilled cornice and blocking course at the advanced ground floor, a corniced cill course at the third floor, and a cornice and blocking course above.

The front elevation has timber doors with rectangular fanlights between modern shop fronts on the ground floor, while the upper floors have a regular arrangement of windows. The predominant window style is four-pane timber sash and case glazing, although the shopfronts feature modern glazing. The roof is covered with grey slate, and there are coped rendered and sandstone ashlar mutual stacks along with cast-iron rainwater goods.
