Description

This building is a church hall located at 71, 73, 75, and 77 Duke Street in Edinburgh, designed by J M Johnston in 1907. It is a two-storey structure with four bays and features a projecting front block that showcases a strong vertical emphasis typical of Glasgow-style architecture. The front is made of red sandstone with stugged ashlar, complemented by bands of cream polished ashlar. The design includes block ashlar mullions and transoms, along with shallow brackets supporting the cornices.

The southwest elevation, or front, has two central bays with plain, deep-set rectangular doorways. Above these, there are tall bipartite windows on the first floor that are recessed and feature tall cills. Each window is topped with a deep cornice that semi-circles over it, and there are plain railings forming a parapet that curves up to the outer bays. The outer bays extend beyond the eaves and have canted parapets with corner dies. They also contain tripartite windows set in recessed panels, with round-arched windows at the ground floor and segmental-arched windows on the first floor. The projecting mullions rise to meet a deep cornice at the eaves level.

The windows are fitted with small leaded panes, and the building has a flat roof with rectangular recessed dormers. The interior was not seen during the inspection in 1993.
