Bus Depot, Annandale Street, Edinburgh

The Bus Depot on Annandale Street in Edinburgh was designed by G M Holmes Douglas in 1922 for the Edinburgh Exhibition Association and was converted in 1934 by E J MacRae for its current use as a bus station. The building features a large, symmetrical classical front made of red brick with red ashlar dressings. It has a wide central section topped with a massive glazed dome, and the ends of the building are also shallowly advanced. There are large rectangular vehicle openings, which are likely the work of MacRae, located in the intermediate bays. The eaves are blocked, and there is a deep parapet that conceals the roof. The rear wall has ten roof gables, with roofs covered in asbestos and glass, supported by steel stanchions.
