Description

Newcraighall Parish Church and Hall, built in 1876 by Henry Hardy, is a rectangular-plan plain Gothic church located on Whitehill Street in Newcraighall, Edinburgh. The building is constructed from yellow colliery brick with red brick banding and arch heads, featuring broad gables, brick buttresses, and pointed arched openings.

The north entrance elevation is symmetrical, with a lean-to porch that has a gabletted pointed arched doorway at the center, which contains a two-leaf boarded door and a blocked tympanum. There are paired windows flanking the doorway and single windows on either side of the porch, along with three lancet windows above, the central one being taller. Two pyramid-capped buttresses break the eaves.

The west elevation consists of six bays, featuring gabletted lancet windows with paired single windows below in bays two to four. There is a similarly detailed lancet window in the fifth bay, which has a bell above and a small side porch below. The first bay contains paired windows, while the sixth bay is obscured.

The east elevation mirrors the west elevation in bays one to five, but includes a modern flat-roofed addition at ground level in bays three to five. There is a pitched roof link between the church and hall in the sixth bay.

The south elevation has not been seen since 1992.

The church hall is a single-storey structure with a pitched roof, featuring three lancet windows on the gabled north elevation and four segmental-arched windows on the east elevation. The west elevation is obscured by a modern flat-roofed addition, and the south elevation has not been seen since 1992.

The roof is covered with grey slate and has yellow ridging, with block skewputts. The interior has not been seen since 1992.
