Newcraighall Primary School, 67 Whitehill Street, Edinburgh

Newcraighall Primary School, built in 1905 by A Murray Hardy and extended in 1934, is a single-storey primary school featuring two gabled blocks connected by a parapet. The school has a gabled roof over the central hall, which includes a Diocletian window. The larger windows are designed with mullions and transoms, and there are ventilators on the roof. The side elevations have taller piend-roofed windows. The building is constructed from bull-faced squared and snecked red sandstone, with red sandstone ashlar dressings. At the rear, there is a later two-storey pebble-dashed extension and a single-storey piend-roofed nursery classroom.

Inside, the central hall has a gabled, metal-trussed roof with roof lights. Classrooms open off the hall, featuring glazed doors and fanlights.

The boundary wall includes plain cast iron railings atop a coped rubble wall, with shallow pyramidal caps on the red sandstone gatepiers. The school has modern replacement glazing, graded grey slates, and terracotta ridge tiles, along with cast iron downpipes that have polygonal hoppers and stone skews.
