Description
9 Seton Place is a two-storey, five-bay symmetrical rectangular-plan double villa built around 1863, featuring service wings at the rear. The sides and rear are constructed from squared and snecked sandstone rubble, while the east elevation showcases stugged and snecked ashlar. The building includes a base course, a cill band course at the first floor, an eaves cornice, raised lugged and tailed window surrounds, and decorative cast-iron guards on the first-floor windows.
On the east elevation, there are entrances in the second and fourth bays, with raised door surrounds that have stone consoles supporting the window guards above. The deep-set panelled doors are topped with plate glass fanlights. The ground floor features bipartite windows in the outer left and right bays, a single window in the central bay, and a single window in each bay above. The central wallhead stack is adorned with scroll-flanked cornicing.
The north and south elevations are blank. The villa has four-pane sash and case windows and a grey slate piended roof, which includes two octagonal moulded cans on the stack, along with rendered and coped stacks on the north and south sides. The eaves guttering is moulded.
The interiors have not been seen since 1990. A low saddleback wall borders the street, with some remaining cast-iron railings, and there are high coped mutual walls.
