Description
The dovecot at Comiston House on Camus Avenue in Edinburgh dates from the late 16th to early 17th century. It is a circular tower, originally an angle turret of the former Comiston House, measuring approximately 3.5 meters in diameter and 6 meters high. The structure is built of coursed rubble with sandstone dressings. The upper stage of the dovecot projects on sandstone corbels, and there are splayed oval sandstone gun loops facing northeast and southeast below. A low, narrow entrance with a sandstone surround is located on the northwest side. To the north, there is a small remaining portion of the wall from the original dwelling. The top sections of the masonry are partially missing. The interior was not inspected in 1997.
