Description

6 Claremont Park is a classical villa designed by Thomas Hamilton in 1827, now serving as a nursing home. The building is two stories high with three bays and features a basement, flanked by single-storey wings that also have three bays. The front is constructed of droved ashlar sandstone, accented with polished ashlar dressings. It includes a base course, band course, eaves cornice, and blocking course. The main block has architraved openings with panelled aprons, while the wings feature architraved panels above their architraved openings.

The north elevation presents a symmetrical design with the entrance door located in the central bay. This door is framed by an entablature and flanked by fluted Ionic columns in antis. It has a panelled door and a decorative rectangular fanlight with an oval and rounded astragal pattern. There are two openings on either side of the entrance and three on the first floor. Each of the three-bay wings has an advanced central bay framed by pilasters and an entablature, with a door in the central bay of the left wing, which may have been altered.

The south elevation has not been seen since 1995. The villa predominantly features 12-pane timber sash and case windows. The main block has a grey slate piend roof, with ashlar wallhead stacks. The central flues are linked as a single broad shaft, with octagonal outer shafts.

The interior has not been seen since 1995. The boundary wall is an ashlar dwarf wall topped with coping. The gatepiers and lamp brackets are made of square-section ashlar with shallow pyramidal caps and cast-iron lamp brackets.
