18 Duncan Street, Edinburgh

This garage, located at 20 Duncan Street in Edinburgh, was built around 1870 and features a three-storey, seven-bay symmetrical Italianate design. The structure is made of cream sandstone ashlar and includes a base course, pilasters with advanced architraves for the ground floor openings of the tenement blocks, bracketed cills for the architraves on the upper floors, dividing band courses between the floors, an eaves course, and a cornice.

On the north (entrance) elevation, the tenement blocks have central round-arched doorways with panelled doors and plate glass fanlights. There are single windows on the first floor above, flanked by round-arched bipartite windows at the ground level and bipartite windows on the first floor above. The second floor features single windows. The garage section has panelled stylized pilasters leading to a segmental arched pend with timber gates, a tripartite window on the second floor above, and a balustraded parapet with corniced dies.

The windows are made of plate glass and timber sash and case. The roof is covered with grey slate and includes a rendered and coped ridge stack. The interior was not seen in 1996.
