16-26 Buccleuch Street, Edinburgh

36 and 37 Buccleuch Place in Edinburgh are a pair of tenement buildings dating from around 1872-3. They rise five storeys and are situated on a corner site, with a basement level accessible from Buccleuch Place and the rear. The buildings are constructed from ashlar sandstone, featuring long and short quoined corners, and a cill course at the first floor. The ground floor of the Buccleuch Place tenement has a channelled finish. The rear elevation of the Buccleuch Place tenement is made of squared and snecked rubble, while the rear of the Buccleuch Street tenements is built from rubble sandstone. The ground floor openings on the Buccleuch Street side have been enlarged and are stop-chamfered. Notably, the second to fifth floor windows of the outermost left bay on the Buccleuch Street elevation are blind.

The windows throughout the buildings primarily consist of 12-pane glazing set in sash and case timber frames. The roofs are covered with grey slates, and there are wide, corniced ashlar ridge stacks topped with cylindrical cans. An entrance platt extends over the basement, accompanied by a low coped wall with cast iron railings along Buccleuch Place.

The interior has not been inspected as of 2015.
