Description

This building, located at 88, 90, 92, 94, 96, 98, 100, and 102 Dundas Street in Edinburgh, is a terraced tenement likely designed by Thomas Bonnar in the early 19th century. It features four storeys and a basement, with a nine-bay facade constructed from broached ashlar sandstone. The principal floor showcases V-jointed channelled rustication, with band courses separating the basement from the principal floor and the principal floor from the first floor. The first-floor windows have raised margins and cornices, while cill courses are present at the first and second floors. A continuous cornice runs along the second floor, and there is a cornice and blocking course at the third floor. The doors and windows at the principal floor are set in square-headed recesses, with the windows featuring panelled aprons. The entrance is accessed via ashlar steps and an entrance platts that oversail the basement.

On the east elevation, there is a four-panel timber common stair door with a rectangular fanlight, centrally located at the principal floor. There are also four-panel timber doors with rectangular fanlights in the third bays from the left and right. The remaining bays on the principal floor contain windows, and there is regular fenestration on the upper floors and at the basement.

The north elevation adjoins another terrace, which is listed separately as 13-24 Fettes Row, while the south elevation adjoins yet another terrace, listed as 78-86A Dundas Street.

The building features 12-pane timber sash and case windows, a grey slate M-roof, and cast-iron rainwater goods. The broached ashlar ridge stacks are coped and topped with circular cans.

The interiors were not seen in 1997, but there is some evidence of working panelled shutters. The railings consist of ashlar copes topped with cast-iron railings that have fleur-de-lis balusters and pineapple finials.
