Description

The Tunnel on Rodney Street in Edinburgh was designed by Grainger and Millar, engineers for the Leith and Granton Railway, between 1844 and 1847. It features two entrances: one at Scotland Street Goods and Mineral Station and the other at Heriot Hill House on Broughton Road. The tunnel has slightly depressed horseshoe arches, which are flanked by long rusticated voussoirs and tapered droved ashlar buttresses. The approach walls are curved, and there is a band course located below the coped ashlar parapet.
