Description
7 Buccleuch Place in Edinburgh is a group of terraced tenements built around the 1780s, with Nos. 9, 10, and 11 designed by John Simpson and Alexander Deans in 1786-7. The buildings are four stories tall, featuring a dormered attic and a basement. They are constructed from ashlar sandstone, with long and short quoined corners, while the rear and side elevations are made of rubble sandstone.
Nos. 7, 8, 12, and 13 each have a Roman Doric pilastered and corniced doorpiece. The entrance doors for Nos. 9, 10, and 11 are set beneath an anta-pilastered doorpiece, topped with a common cornice that forms a pediment at the center. The rear elevations of Nos. 7, 9, and 12 each feature a full-height, two-window, off-centre bowed bay.
The tenements display a variety of glazing patterns and have roofs covered with grey slates. They are topped with wide, corniced ridge and gable stacks that have cylindrical cans, although some stacks at the rear have been rendered. The properties are enclosed by low coped walls with cast iron railings.
