6 Bernard Street, Edinburgh

8 Bernard Street is an early 19th-century tenement building that stands three stories tall with an attic and features six bays. It has a pend on the right side. The front elevation is made of cream sandstone with stugged ashlar and polished dressings, while the rear is constructed from squared and snecked rubble.

On the southwest (front) elevation, the bays are arranged in groups of three, separated by a gutter recess, and display regular window placements. There is a depressed-arched keystoned pend on the outer right. To the left, the penultimate bay features an architraved and corniced doorway with a panelled door and a rectangular fanlight that has radial astragals. The roof includes four rectangular dormers with piended roofs.

The northeast (rear) elevation has a pend on the outer left and single windows. There is a circular rendered stairwell, which may be a later addition, located in the center and topped with a catslide roof, with a door on the flank. It also has four dormers similar to those on the front.

The southeast elevation is gabled and features an apex stack. The building has 12-pane timber sash and case windows, a slate roof with metal flashings, and both mutual and apex stacks. There are two Velux roof lights on the front. The eaves gutter is moulded and supported by decorative cast-iron brackets.

The interior was not seen in 1993.
