Description
The monument is a bronze equestrian statue of Field Marshal Earl Haig, who served during the First World War. The statue depicts him in uniform on horseback and is constructed at one and a half times life size. It stands on a large flowing granite base, designed to resemble the horse and rider crossing rocky terrain. Sculpted by George Edward Wade, the statue was unveiled on 28 September 1923. A small metal plaque on the statue bears the inscription: 'EARL HAIG: This statue was presented to the City of Edinburgh by Sir Dhunjibhoy Bomanji of Bombay in admiration of the services rendered to the British Empire by the Field Marshal'.
