Description

Dean Bridge in Edinburgh was designed by Thomas Telford and constructed between 1829 and 1831, with later alterations to the parapets in 1912. It is a prominent road bridge featuring a segmental arch design with four spans and plain classical detailing. The bridge is made of sandstone ashlar and includes four large semi-circular arches supported by larger segmental arches. Narrow, hollow rectangular section piers support the footway. There is a moulded band course with a plain parapet above, and small cast-iron fleur-de-lys embellishments on the parapet copes.
