Description

4 Randolph Cliff in Edinburgh is a three-storey classical terrace with a basement and attic, built in 1822 by James Gillespie Graham. The main southwest elevation features fifteen bays, with channelled sandstone ashlar at the ground floor and a continuous cornice at the second floor. The entrances for numbers 2-8 include stone steps that extend over flagstone basement areas. The doors are made of panelled timber, some with glazed upper panels and rectangular fanlights. The windows have moulded architraves, with those on the first floor featuring individual cornices. Numbers 2-4 have three piended dormers, while the attic for numbers 5-6 is a later addition.

The slightly advanced five-bay end pavilion at numbers 7-9A includes a three-bay projection on its northwest elevation, which has a balustraded balcony and a pedimented window at the first floor. A balustraded parapet is present at the second floor, topped by a tall and broad ashlar chimney stack with a round-arched opening in the centre. The building features predominantly 12-pane timber sash and case windows, a grey slate roof, and cast-iron rainwater goods. The chimney stacks have circular clay cans, and the cast-iron railings display spear-headed balusters with pineapple finials. Number 9 has round gatepiers. The interiors were not seen in 1998.
