Etterick Smithy, Bute

Etterick Smithy Cottage is an earlier 19th-century single-storey cottage with a rectangular plan. It features a 3-bay former blacksmith's cottage on the left side and a 2-bay former smithy adjoining it on the right, with single-storey additions at the rear. The exterior is made of whitewashed rubble sandstone, with painted surrounds around the openings.

On the southeast elevation, the entrance features a part-glazed timber door in the penultimate bay to the outer left, accompanied by a plate-glass fanlight and flanking single windows. To the outer right, there is a 2-leaf boarded timber door leading into the smithy, along with a single window in the adjacent bay.

The cottage has 16-pane timber sash and case windows, while the outer right has a 16-pane casement window. Skylights are present on the cottage. The roof is covered with graded grey slate and has a raised stone skew on the southwest side, along with replacement rainwater goods. The building features corniced ridge and apex stacks, as well as various circular chimney cans.

Inside the former blacksmith's shop, the original features remain intact, including large stone corbels at the back wall hearth and a red-brick flue, with a red-brick wall enclosing the hearth to the side.

The boundary wall surrounding the cottage site at the front is a whitewashed rubble wall with a coping, and it includes a wrought-iron pedestrian entry gate.
