South West Garage Range, East Courtyard, Stables, Darleith House

The Central Range of the Stables at Darleith House is an earlier 19th-century building designed in an E-plan classical style, which has been converted into a residential dwelling. It features a walled garden attached to the south. The exterior is harled with sandstone margins and dressings, a base course, and droved quoins.

The main elevation displays three tall pedimented gables, each with a tall sandstone round-arched insert at the center. There is a window at ground level and one on the first floor at the two outer left pediments. The outer right gable has a door at ground level. The gable on the outer left is finished with grey harl, while a high rubble wall with ashlar slab coping and sandstone piers leads to the courtyard. A lean-to garage or storage block is attached to this wall, constructed of rubble with partial harl and red sandstone margins and dressings. The central gable is exposed rubble, featuring a round-arch sandstone inset at the center with two windows, and smaller ashlar-margined windows flanking the arch at the upper level. The rubble wall continues with slab coping and sandstone piers to the courtyard. A whinstone wall with joist pockets is also present. The outer gable is harled, with a door at ground level and a window above made of sandstone inset, along with a window to the left at ground level. A modern lean-to galvanised shed is located on the right return.

The side elevation consists of six nearly symmetrical bays, showcasing ashlar-margined windows and a hoist door at the outer left. The outer left features modern 12-pane timber sash and case windows, while the center of the conversion has top-hopper hardwood windows. The roof is covered with grey slate and includes lead flashings, with low coped ridge stacks.

The walled garden is a large rectangular-plan space that shares its southern wall with the stable range. It is constructed of whinstone and sandstone rubble with harl-pointing and has ashlar slab coping that is shaped towards the main door. A raggle of former glasshouses is located along the southern wall, which includes windows and a door punched into the stable at the outer right, with another door to the left and an outer left door. The wall to the left features a broad gateway at the center and a pedestrian door to the right.
