Description
This outbuilding at Whinhill House in Kintyre dates back to the earlier 19th century. It is a two-storey, three-bay symmetrical farmhouse with a rectangular plan, featuring a single-storey, two-bay wing that projects to the west. To the east, there is a double-pile pair of outbuildings, also with a rectangular plan and oriented north-south. The principal front is smooth cement-rendered and painted, while the side and rear elevations are roughcast. The wing and outbuildings have random rubble walls. Notable features include a base course, eaves course, margined windows, and corners on the south elevation, along with projecting cills at the windows.
On the south (principal) elevation, there is a pilastered stone doorpiece at the centre, topped with an entablature and blocking course. It has a modern entrance door, a six-panel inner door with glazed top panels, and a window to the left, with a blind window above.
The north (rear) elevation has a modern lean-to addition at the ground floor and a stair window at an intermediate level. The west wing features a margined window on the south elevation, with a smaller window at a lower level to the left. The gabled west elevation has a door centred at both the ground and first floors, along with modern openings and an entrance porch on the north elevation.
The building has modern glazing throughout, with a grey slate piended and bellcast roof on the main house, complemented by cast-iron downpipes. The north pitch of the wing has modern tiles. The roughcast wallhead stacks have five flues and are capped with battered circular cans, positioned at the side elevations.
The outbuildings are gabled and feature various openings in the west elevation. The east range has a grey slate pitched roof, while the other range has a modern tile finish.
The property is accessed through decorative two-leaf cast-iron gates, which are supported by octagonal cast-iron piers with pyramidal caps.
