Description
Weighbridge Cottage, located at Tarbert Harbour, was designed by engineer Thomas Telford in the early 19th century. It is situated near a U-plan harbour and features a dry stone rubble wall. There are steps within the wall to the east, and the rear wall of the former weighbridge building extends beyond the harbour wall, leading to a slipway on the east side. The weighbridge consists of a gabled cottage, which is now used as commercial premises. The cottage is harled and has a slate roof with gablehead stacks. It has two windows on the north side, one window on each gable, and a central door flanked by windows on the south side. The rear wall on the north side extends down to the lower ground of the slip. There is an additional slipway to the southwest. The southwest corner of the harbour wall includes two archways for drainage, and the wall continues northwards with steps built into it. The harbour walls end to the north at the slipway and to the east at the pier. Within the harbour, there is a square quay known as Beilding, constructed of dry stone rubble, with stone steps located within the wall to the southeast.
