Description
Glenbarr Abbey is an old house that was altered and extended around 1815 in the Gothic style. It has two storeys and a low floor, constructed from random rubble with dressed facework. The building features piended slated roofs and crenellated parapets, along with buttresses and hood-mouldings. The western extension has a 'church-like' projection with pinnacles. The south wing, built in a similar style but dated 1844, consists of three blocks of diminishing heights. Inside, the Stair Hall is notable for its ribbed plaster vault. The Gothic alterations and the western wing are stylistically attributed to James Gillespie Graham.
