Description
1 Millburn Cottages in Ascog, Bute, is a pair of late 19th-century single-storey cottages that form a symmetrical six-bay terrace. They are constructed from stugged squared and snecked cream sandstone, with polished sandstone dressings. The cottages feature a raised base course and overhanging timber eaves. The openings have tooled long and short surrounds with stop-chamfered details and chamfered cills. The entrances are advanced gabled and located in the central bays.
On the north elevation, there are steps leading to the gabled entrances in the penultimate bays on the outer left and right. Each entrance has stylised consoles beneath timber bargeboards, boarded timber doors, and nailhead moulding below bipartite, plate-glass fanlights. The round-arched panels beneath the apex have architraved surrounds, with "MR" embossed to the left (No 1) and "TR" embossed to the right (No 2). Single windows flank each entrance.
The cottages have 4-pane timber sash and case windows and a graded grey slate roof, featuring decorative rainwater goods at the center, which have been replaced at the outer left and right. Coped ridge stacks with circular cans complete the roof.
The front wall consists of a coped, harl-pointed, squared and snecked stugged sandstone wall, with square-plan piers topped with slightly pyramidal caps. The interior was not seen in 1996.
