South Wing, South Range, The Doll's Houses, Killean

The South Wing of the North Range at The Doll's Houses in Killean, designed by JJ Burnet around 1895, consists of a pair of semi-detached blocks of U-plan Arts and Crafts cottages. These buildings feature cream sandstone ashlar dressings alongside carefully random schist rubble, with each block containing mirror-image cottages.

The front elevation of the left-hand cottage showcases four prominent gables with eaves that have plain bargeboards supported by corbels. At the attic level, there is a small four-pane window. The roof extends and slopes down to the ground floor, where it features bipartite corner casement glazing. To the right, the roof is supported by a bracket to form a porch, which has a baluster on a dwarf wall that supports the bargeboard. The porch continues under deep eaves and includes a tripartite casement window set in a brick wall, with wooden bench seats positioned below the window. The chimney stacks have plain copes and blocking courses on the gable heads, with a wall separating the two houses. A three-pane skylight is located on the upper slope of the main roof.

The side elevation is single-storey, featuring quadripartite casement corner glazing to the right, with a small piend above this window and a full piend to the left, along with a skylight to the left. All casements are six-pane.

The right-hand cottages are mirror images of the left-hand ones. The interiors have not been seen.
