Description
The Old Station on Commercial Street in Newtyle was originally designed by engineer Charles Landale in 1831 for the Dundee and Newtyle Railway, likely constructed shortly after that date. The original station is a single-storey structure located on the south-west side of the track, built from rubble with droved dressings. After 1861, when the route of the line was altered, a new passenger station was built, and the old station was remodeled as a goods shed. The goods shed features an overall roof with semi-elliptical arches spanning two lines of track, constructed from stone, although the roof is now covered with asbestos. The original building platform is incorporated on the south-west side, along with fragments of other earlier buildings at the north-east corner. There is also a single-storey brick addition on the north-west side, which includes a cantilevered canopy from the late 19th century. Additionally, there is a stepped stone plinth and a cast pivot for a crane.
