Description
Woodside House is a farmsteading dating from the 1890s. It is constructed of red stugged and snecked ashlar with grey slated roofs, and exhibits simple detailing. The buildings are arranged in an L-plan, comprising a three-bay, single-storey and attic house to the north, which has been converted to domestic use. The house has a central door, with single windows with four-pane sash and case glazing on either side; dormerheaded attic gablets are positioned over the wallhead, with modern replacement glazing. Original rainwater goods are present.
Attached to the north is an L-plan, single-storey and loft former stables and cart shed block. To the southwest is a single-storey stables block with moulded skewputts and a masonry apex finial to the west. A central louvered ridge fleche rises from the stables block, topped by a tall, pyramidal slated roof. The former cart-shed block links this to the house to the east, featuring a segmental cart-arch in the northeast re-entrant angle; this arch has been infilled with modern patio doors. Modern skylights are set into the slope of the roof.
A large, square-plan water tower stands nearby. It has one opening on each of its three lower stages, with eight-pane glazing – the lower six panes are fixed, and the upper two are hoppers. The tower corbelled out at the fourth stage and is topped with an overhanging slated, shallow pyramid roof with a square, louvered apex vent. A single-bay, single-storey block with a gabled slated roof is attached to the northeast side of the water tower.
