Description
The walled garden at Phesdo House is an oval-shaped structure dating from around 1815, attributed to John Smith, and located to the northwest of Phesdo House. The walls are tall and constructed from coursed squared granite rubble, featuring ladder pinnings and straight copes at the top. Internally, the walls are lined with brick.
The garden is nearly complete, although there has been some loss of material on the southwest side. The walls taper in height towards the south. There are entrances on the south, north, and east walls; the south entrance was enlarged in the 20th century to allow for vehicle access. The north and east entrances have timber doors, while the south entrance features a metal gate. Additionally, the north wall has a brick chimney stack. The overall dimensions of the walled garden are 95 meters from east to west and 73 meters from north to south.
