Old Parish Church, Erroll Street, Peterhead

The Old Parish Church on Erroll Street in Peterhead was built between 1804 and 1806 by Alexander Laing of Edinburgh, with R. & J. Mitchell as the contractors. This church features a severe classical style and has a rectangular plan. It includes a lower porch with three arches and a prominent 118-foot steeple, which is connected to the main structure by flanking wallhead balustrades. The south side has four arched windows, while the north side showcases a two-storey arrangement with four windows. The church is constructed of granite, with ashlar stone on the front and squared stone on the sides, and it has a moulded eaves course. Inside, there is a U-plan gallery supported by reeded Roman-Doric columns, and the gallery front is finely panelled. The church underwent significant restoration and redecoration in 1966, replacing earlier arrangements from 1894. The hall was added in 1896, and it houses a Burgerhuys Bell from 1647 and a Mears bell from 1850.
