Description
Corsindae is a large harled mansion with parts dating from various periods. The original section likely dates back to 1484 and was recast in the 16th century. It features a three-storey L-plan layout with a circular re-entrant stair-tower, which is now gutted. Mid-18th century buttresses were added to the back of the building. The west wing was originally a plain two-storey structure with a basement and three windows. The circular tower was heightened around 1800, and the back wing, which has a bow, was probably constructed around the same time.
In 1840, John Smith undertook a significant reconstruction, effectively doubling the old house to create an approximately symmetrical U-plan section with a central gable, while the interior was almost completely remodeled. A porch and quoins were added to the early 18th century west wing, likely a little later than the main reconstruction. The mansion underwent extensive restoration between 1954 and 1955.
