Description
Howe O'Buchan is a two-storey building constructed around 1840 to 1845. It features a harled exterior with grey granite margins and a belt course at the eaves. The south front has three windows, with the centre bay being advanced, while the east front has five windows, including several dummies, with the centre bay also advanced. The building is topped with a broad-eaved piend roof and gablets over the centre bays, and it has two wallhead chimneys. The windows have been largely reglazed and originally featured a horizontal window divide.
Inside, the interior is simple but includes some decorative plasterwork. A fine marble chimneypiece dating from around 1805 is located in the drawing-room and features an excellent sculptured panel. The banisters, designed by Mackenzie & Matthews in 1849, were originally from Brucklay Castle. Additionally, there is a date panel inscribed "A S W J S 1711" from a previous house located at the rear.
