Description
51 High Street in Stonehaven is an early 17th-century, three-storey, four-bay L-plan terraced town house that has undergone later alterations, including a slightly raised wallhead. The building features a corbelled stair turret and is harled with painted ashlar margins. The weathered moulded doorpiece shows traces of ornament and includes a two-leaf, vertically-boarded timber pend door located in the left bay at ground level, with a modern metal plaque set above it.
The north (principal) elevation has a broad moulded doorpiece, an arrowslit opening to the left, and three windows in the bays to the right. Each floor above has regular fenestration, with the corbelled stair turret projecting from the eaves at the second floor between the first and second bays.
The west elevation's gable is predominantly obscured by an adjoining building. The windows are timber sash and case with a 12-pane glazing pattern. The roof is covered with graded grey slates, featuring a stone ridge and a later rooflight. The gablehead stacks are coped with harling and include some cans, while the skews are ashlar-coped.
