Description
Whitehaugh is a small-scale, two-storey building with a basement, originally constructed in 1745. It features a seven-window ashlar frontage, with the central three windows advanced and topped by a pediment. The building has a platformed piend roof. Around 1835, John Smith made additions and internal reconstructions, including a Roman-Doric four-column portico with a balustraded balcony above on the first floor. The frontages of the single-storey and basement additions have one window each and are pedimented with an anta order. There is also a single-storey north wing supported by proto-Doric columns, which only have abacuses. Some later additions have been recently removed. Inside, there is a notable entrance hall staircase featuring Doric columns, with Ionic column screens on either side.
