Description
Rattray House is a mid-18th century building featuring a rear part that is two stories with a basement and attic, finished in harled render. Inside, it boasts impressive original hall and stair joinery, and a very fine rococo chimneypiece in the first-floor drawing room, which is now used as a bedroom. This chimneypiece includes a painted over-mantel, doorcases with pulvinated friezes, pediments, and painted tympana.
In approximately 1817-1818, a taller and wider front block was added, which is two stories with a basement, stuccoed and whitewashed at the front, and topped with a plain parapet and piend roof. The center section of this front block is slightly advanced and features one window, flanked by narrow dummy windows, with a higher parapet and twin chimneys. A porch, added around 1890, replaced a four-column plain Doric porch and is situated between two windows on either side. The interior maintains a simple classic style.
