Description

The Hardgate Well, located in Hardgate, Aberdeen, dates back to the 17th century but was rebuilt in 1970. The well is set within a coped granite rubble wall that extends from the boundary wall of Strawberry Bank. It features a round-arched opening at the center, which is covered with a mesh. A plaque installed by the Corporation of the City of Aberdeen in 1970 is positioned to the upper right of the well. The plaque reads: "THE HARDGATE WELL: This spring figured in the Battle of Justice Mills fought on 13th September 1644 between the Royalist forces under the Marquis of Montrose and the citizens of Aberdeen."
