Description

Mid 19th century. 24-bay terrace comprising 2-storey and attic, some with basements, 2-bay and 3-bay houses coursed tooled granite finely finished to margins. Base course; projecting cills; pilastered doorways corniced and consoled; predominantly panelled timber doors with letterbox fanlights; eaves course; canted dormers, except Nos 12 and 16.

S (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: Nos 2, 4 and 18: symmetrical; doorway to centre of ground floor, flanked to left and right by single window, canted to No 18; 2 windows to 1st floor above, window to centre bay of 1st floor at No 18; 2 dormers to attic floor. Nos 6, 8 and 10: asymmetrical, doorway off-centre to ground floor flanked by 2 windows, 2 windows to 1st floor of No 6, window to each bay of Nos 8 and 10, 2 dormers to attic floor. Nos 12, 14 and 16: asymmetrical; 2-bay, doorway to bay to right of ground floor, window flanking to left, canted to Nos 12 and 14, window to each bay of 1st floor, dormers to attic, replacement to Nos 12 and 16.

E ELEVATION: asymmetrical; gabled; window to ground and 1st floors of curved wall to outer left, single window to ground and 1st floors of flanking bay to outer right.

N ELEVATION: asymmetrical; variety of door and window patterns, some, dormers and skylights to attic.

W ELEVATION: obscured by adjoining terrace (see separate listing).

Variety of timber sash and case windows. Grey slate roof with lead ridge. Coped stone skews with blocked skewputts. Coped granite gablehead and ridge stacks with circular and octagonal cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods.

INTERIORS: not seen 1999.

GATEPIERS AND BOUNDARY WALLS: low coped granite walls enclosing gardens to S and W, ironwork railings and gates. Brick and granite coped rubble boundary walls to N.
