Description

Mid 19th century. 2-storey and attic, 12-bay terrace comprising 6 2-bay houses. Tooled granite rubble, finely finished to margins. Base course; pilastered timber doorway, panelled timber door with 2-pane fanlights; projecting cills; eaves course; predominantly canted piend-roofed dormers to attic floor.

NW (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: Nos 172 and 173, 174 and 175: 8-bay comprising 2 4-bay mirrored pairs of 2-bay houses; doorways to centre bays of ground floor, flanked to outer bays by single windows, regular fenestration to 1st floors; single canted dormer to outer bays of attic floor, with skylights between, modern rectangular dormers to attic of No 175. No 176: asymmetrical; doorway to left of ground floor, flanked to right by single window, regular fenestration to 1st floor, 2 canted dormers to attic floor. No 178: regular fenestration to ground and 1st floors, 2 canted dormers to attic floor (doorway to SW elevation, see below).

SW ELEVATION: gabled; doorway to centre of ground floor, remainder blank.

SE ELEVATION: irregular openings and doorways, variety of dormers to attic floor.

NE ELEVATION: gabled; small window to centre of ground and 1st floors.

Variety of timber sash and case windows; occasional modern glazing to all but No 176. Grey slate roof with lead ridge. Coped gablehead and ridge stacks with circular cans. Coped stone skews with blocked skewputts. Cast-iron rainwater goods.

INTERIOR: not seen 2000.

BOUNDARY WALLS: low granite walls to NW.
