Description
Fairview is a single-storey, classical former engine house located on Inchgarth Road in Aberdeen. Designed by William Smith, it was built in 1864 for Aberdeen Water Works and has since been converted into residential use. The listing excludes the single-storey and attic cottage situated at the rear.
The former engine house features a symmetrical design with a full-width pedimented gable on the entrance elevation. Constructed from coursed, Aberdeen-bonded granite, it showcases bull-faced quoins and a moulded cornice in the pediment. The building includes a base course, a band course, and a cornice. The southeast entrance elevation has a central two-leaf timber door topped by a three-light fanlight and a consoled cornice above. This door is flanked by windows, with two window openings on each side elevation.
The windows predominantly feature a four-pane glazing pattern set in timber sash and case frames. The roof is covered with grey slates and includes a tall central roof vent and gable chimney stacks.
Surrounding the property is a rubble boundary wall with triangular coping, complemented by a pair of bull-faced, capped gatepiers to the east.
