Description
The gatepiers, boundary walls, and gates at St Joseph's School on Queen's Cross in Aberdeen date from the later part of the 19th century. The site features two-leaf decorative iron gates to the northwest at Queen's Cross, which are flanked by corniced square-plan gatepiers and low coped rough-faced granite quadrant walls, with piers at the outer angles. To the north on Queen's Road, there are low coped rough-faced granite walls, while to the east on St Swithin Street, high coped Aberdeen bond rubble walls, lined with brick, can be found. Square-plan gatepiers to the south are topped with spherical finials, and there are iron gates and railings on either side. High granite coped walls lead to Queen's Lane South, where square-plan coped gatepiers and iron gates provide access to the former primary school. Low square-plan piers are flanked by ashlar walls that form a terrace immediately south of 3 Queen's Cross and the Chapel, with steps leading down to a playground. A granite coped brick wall encloses the garden to the south of 1 Queen's Road, which has a lean-to glasshouse adjoining it. Additionally, brick coped granite rubble walls enclose the gardens of the remaining villas.
