Description
This is a three-storey rendered shop located at 13 John Mitchel Place, Newry, within the Ballynacraig townland and a conservation area. The building was constructed between 1980 and 1999 and is considered of no architectural or historic value. It has an asbestos-slated roof without chimneys and cement-rendered walls. The ground floor features a modern tiled shop front. The first floor has two large openings protected by security grills. The second floor contains four top-hung timber windows with modern concrete cills. The building appears on an 1835 Ordnance Survey map and was occupied by Dr Fitzpatrick at that time. In 1863, it was described as 3.25 storeys high. Historical records indicate that a vacant site previously occupied the location, as shown in a 1969 slide depicting the adjoining property. Sources consulted include Ordnance Survey maps, valuation revision books from 1866-1930, and photographic records.
