30 Main St, Hilltown, Newry, Co Down, BT34 5UJ

The building at 30 Main Street, Hilltown, Newry, was originally constructed around 1800. It comprised two two-storey houses, built as part of a terrace stepped down the hill. The walls were rendered, and the roofs were slated, later covered in natural slate. The building’s façade was painted with the signage "Wines F. Kiernan Spirits".

The ground floor originally included a bar, with the remainder of the frontage lit by two display windows and a double-hung window with plain sashes. Three street entrances were present, one recessed, each with a plain fanlight above. The first floor accommodated four double-hung windows with full glazing bars, and two with sashes divided into two panes. A large square fixed window was prominent on the ground floor left, with a doorway featuring a transom to its right. Above this doorway was a 3/6 sliding sash window. The right bay, only partially visible in photographs, included a doorway to the left and a 3/6 sash window above. All windows had granite sills. A chimney was located on the right gable.

Photographs from 1973 and 1978 show the building, including evidence of a roofless state in 1978. The original building has been demolished and replaced by a modern two-storey youth club with a gabled roof, an advanced and gabled central bay, rendered walls, and timber casement windows.
