Description

This is a vernacular house situated at the end of a lane off Cottage Road. It likely dates to the mid-19th century, between 1840 and 1859, although an earlier, smaller building was present on an Ordnance Survey map from 1835.

The house is one and a half storeys and two bays, aligned north-south on the lane. It has a pitched roof covered in natural slate, with a brick chimney on the right gable. An advanced eaves course is visible, but there are no rainwater goods. The walls are whitewashed lime render over random rubble. The principal elevation faces east. The left bay is longer and is adjoined by a windbreak porch on its right side. Each bay has a window opening on both floors; the ground-floor windows have granite cills, while the upper-floor windows appear to be later insertions, are smaller, and have cement cills (the window on the left is a 4/2 sliding sash). The porch has a monopitched roof of natural slate, a tongue-and-groove (t+g) sheeted door, and blank cheeks on either side, with low granite seats positioned on either side of the porch. The right bay also has a window opening on each floor. The left gable is abutted by a lower outbuilding belonging to the adjacent property. The exposed section of the gable is unrendered and blank. The rear elevation has windows on each end of the ground floor and one centred in the upper floor, all without cills. A small window is set near the apex of the right gable, which is itself abutted by a low outbuilding. To the right gable are two single-storey outbuildings and a low monopitched shed that link them; these have pitched natural slate roofs with tiled skews, and the right outbuilding is set at an angle. These outbuildings are considered to be of no particular interest. The building was recorded as derelict at some point.
