Telephone Kiosk, near 13 Altmore Street, Glenarm, Ballymena, Co Antrim

This is a red, cast-iron, Version K6 telephone kiosk by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, located on the western side of Altmore Street, Glenarm, near number 13. The kiosk is situated next to a rubble wall. Dating from between 1936 and 1953, it was designed in 1935 to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of King George V, and is based on Scott’s earlier K2 (1926) and K3 (1929) telephone kiosk designs. The kiosk features a teak door. It retains the earlier ‘Tudor’ crown motif, indicating it was constructed while that design was still in use, prior to its replacement with St. Edward’s crown following the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II. Approximately 60,000 of these kiosks were distributed throughout the UK. The kiosk is within the Glenarm Town Parks townland and is located within the Glenarm Conservation Area.
