Description

This is a plain two-storey terrace house built in 1859 on the east side of Mark Street, Glenarm. It has undergone significant modernisation in the 1980s and 1990s, including the application of a dry dash finish to the exterior walls, the replacement of original windows and doors with PVC versions, and the addition of a large, flat-roofed rear extension. The front elevation, which faces roughly west, is asymmetrical, with a PVC panelled front door and a plain fanlight to the right side, and a top-hung PVC window to the left. Above are two further, similar windows. The rear east elevation features a full-width flat-roofed return with modern PVC doors and windows, and a Velux window to the rear of the main roof. The external walls are finished with a salt and pepper dry dash and rest on a smooth, slightly recessed cement plinth. The roof is covered with natural slate, and all roof openings are now PVC. A plain, rendered chimney stack sits on the north side of the ridge.

Mark Street was laid out in the 1850s and named after Lord Mark (Kerr) McDonnell, the 10th Earl of Antrim. While not depicted on the Ordnance Survey map of 1858, the house is documented in the 1859 valuation records as a dwelling of the same dimensions (excluding the later extension). The property sits within a conservation area.
