Description

This is a double-fronted, two-storey house dating to around 1860, located on the east side of Mark Street, Glenarm. The front elevation, which faces roughly west, is broadly symmetrical and features a central doorway flanked by window openings. There are three window openings to the first floor. The property is currently gutted and roofless, and the original rear wall has been demolished. Building work involving a complete reconstruction is underway, and it is likely that only the front wall will remain of the original fabric. The external walls are constructed from limestone rubble.

Mark Street was laid out in the 1850s and named after Lord Mark (Kerr) McDonnell, the 10th Earl of Antrim. While not depicted on the 1858 Ordnance Survey map, the house corresponds to a dwelling shown under construction on the 1859 valuation map. Historical records from the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI), including valuation plans and town plans from 1859, 1903, 1907-[1935] and 1936-57, document the property's development. The house is situated within the Glenarm Town Parks townland and lies within a conservation area. It was delisted on March 31, 2005.
