This is a former salt mine located on Trailcock Road, Eden, Carrickfergus, Co Antrim. The mine was worked using the traditional pillar-and-stall technique from the 19th century until the 1920s. In the 1980s, salt extraction involved pumping a brine solution, which eroded the supporting pillars. This led to a catastrophic collapse of the mine roof in October 1990. Following the collapse, the resulting surface depression has gradually enlarged and filled with water, submerging any surviving remains, such as winding gear. A partial survey only has been undertaken. The site was formerly and currently used as a factory. Due to its condition, listing is not appropriate.
