House at, Botera Road, Omagh, Co. Tyrone, BT78 5LB

This is a detached, single-cell, single-storey vernacular dwelling dating to the early nineteenth century, situated south of Botera Road. Constructed of local materials, the building retains much of its original character with simple, unadorned finishes. It is rectangular in plan and includes a single-storey wind-break porch to the north. The roof is now corrugated metal with a cat-slide roof over the porch, originally thatched; a chimney is overgrown. The walls are of rubble construction and lime-rendered. A timber-framed window opening remains, although the window itself has been removed. The north-facing principal elevation features the porch at the left, with a single window to the right. The east, south and west gables are blank. The site is directly accessed from the road to the north, with a partially collapsed single-storey corrugated metal farm building to the west.

The building appears on the 1833 Ordnance Survey map and was valued at 8 shillings in Griffith’s Valuation of 1858, leased from Archibald Ballentine and occupied by John McFarland. Valuation revisions indicate a change in occupier to Robert Rea in 1901 and a slight valuation increase to 10 shillings in 1886. The building was formerly thatched and is currently occupied as a house. It is noted as being derelict.
