Bridge over Creevan Burn, Botera Upper Road, Omagh, Co. Tyrone, BT78 5LH

A single-span road bridge, likely constructed between 1840 and 1859, carries Botera Upper Road over Creevan Burn. The bridge is built of well-proportioned, rockfaced sandstone with dressed rockfaced sandstone voussoirs and ashlar sandstone for the soffit. It features splayed abutments, spandrels, and a parapet with segmental coping. The parapet is rounded at its north and south ends. The single elliptical-headed arch has a carriageway width of approximately 4 metres. A rockfaced sandstone string course runs to carriageway level.

The bridge follows a style typical of structures dating from around 1850, with robust stonework detailing and dressings, and appears to be largely unaltered. A bridge at this location is depicted on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map of 1833, although its style suggests a later construction date. The surrounding land is agricultural; to the north and south, hedging borders the road, and to the west, a field is bounded by a farm gate along the riverbank. It is considered a good example of its type, reflecting the development of infrastructure in the county during the 19th century and carrying local historical interest. Records from the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland (PRONI) document the bridge’s depiction on Ordnance Survey maps from 1833 to 1937.
