Description

Detached single-storey Orange Hall, built c.1930, located to the east side of Main Street, Seskinore. Rectangular-on-plan aligned north-south. Roof is pitched natural slate, red roll-top clay ridge tiles. Timber eaves board supporting replacement uPVC ogee-profile rainwater goods. Walls are roughcast rendered with smooth rendered plinth and smooth rendered stepped quoins (no quoins to rear). Windows are replacement timber casements with projecting masonry cills, smooth rendered banding and decorative cast-concrete architrave detail. Principal elevation faces west and contains three windows, each divided by moulded roundel containing at left, a moulded centrepiece and the date 1690; at right, a moulded coat of arms and the inscription ‘VIRTUTE ET LABORE’, when translated means ‘by valour and exertion.’ Left (north) gable is abutted at centre by single-storey (lower) extension with pitched natural slate roof; exposed section is blank. Rear (east) elevation is abutted at left by single-storey L-plan extension with flat roof; exposed section at right is blank. Right (south) gable is blank. North gable single-storey extension contains principal entrance at west; comprising double-leaf timber sheeted entrance door contained within moulded architrave with central roundel and star motif. North gable contains single window; east elevation is blank. Rear (east) extension built c. 1960 is of no interest. Setting The hall is accessed from Main Street via wrought-iron pedestrian gate supported on ruled-and-lined rendered square-plan piers with pyramidal caps. Remainder of west boundary enclosed by ruled-and-lined rendered plinth wall with wrought-iron railing. The perimeter of the hall has a concrete ground surface with lawn to north and east.
