Old Schoolhouse, High Street, Newtownbutler, Co. Fermanagh, BT92 8JD

The building is a former schoolhouse, constructed between 1820 and 1839. It is now a completely ruinous structure, heavily overgrown with vegetation. The schoolhouse is aligned roughly east-west and situated within a road junction, with a garden to its front. The main elevation faces south and originally had five window openings across its width; the end gables are blank, with the gable on the right side adjoined by a small addition. The rear of the building features a central doorway flanked by window openings on either side.

According to the 1835 Ordnance Survey Memoir for Galloon Parish, the school was erected in 1830 and was supported by the local incumbent who provided £4 per annum towards the schoolmaster's salary. The building is labelled as a schoolhouse on all three editions of the Ordnance Survey 6-inch maps (dated 1834, 1857, and 1907). A 1983 Historical Monuments and Buildings Branch survey card describes it as a single-storey building with a hipped slated roof, roughcast walls over rubble and brick, five casement windows featuring small panes and label mouldings over the lintels, and small porches with shed roofs and sheeted entrance doors. The front of the schoolhouse was approximately 50 feet wide. The schoolhouse is located in the townland of Aghagay. It is currently recorded as derelict.
